B2MeM Prompt and Path: Fanworks Recs: Favorite setting (yellow path)
Format: rec list
Genre: (see below)
Rating: (see below)
Warnings: (see below)
Characters: Celebrimbor, Narvi, others
Pairings: Celebrimbor/Narvi
Creator’s Notes (optional): I belatedly realized that my first rec list about Celebrimbor didn’t include any fanworks with Narvi! This seemed like a serious omission. Eregion is one of my favorite settings in Middle-earth, specifically in the Second Age when friendship with Khazad-dûm flourished. I don’t know if “the Doors of Durin” specifically counts as a setting, but I love them too, both as a work of craft and art, and for what they represent.
Summary: Five gen and slash fics and one artwork featuring the relationship between Celebrimbor and Narvi, mostly involving the creation of the Doors of Durin.
The Star by Evandar
Format: ficlet (467 words)
Genre: friendship, gen or pre-slash
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Celebrimbor, Narvi
Pairings: Celebrimbor/Narvi
Summary: Narvi helps Celebrimbor decide on a final element to his design of the doors.
A number of authors (including myself) have tried to figure out the question of why Celebrimbor put the Star of Fëanor on the Doors of Durin after parting ways with his father in the First Age, and what it implies about his relationship with his family. This ficlet looks at the moment of that decision. I like the way both characters are written here, with the sense of their working relationship, and I enjoy how the author wrote Narvi's voice.
"The House of a Friend" & Other Drabbles by Himring
Format: drabble sequence (500 words)
Genre: gen, friendship
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Narvi, Celebrimbor
Pairings: none
Summary: The friendship of Narvi and Celebrimbor: Narvi and Celebrimbor work on the Doors of Moria--and other scenes.
I’m fond of this drabble sequence, showing moments in Narvi and Celebrimbor’s friendship. I like Narvi’s energy and his firm opinions. I also liked Celebrimbor's thought that Arda couldn't be Unmarred without the Dwarves -- it seems like the sort of thing he would say.
The Doors of Durin by lynndyre
Format: short story (2515 words)
Genre: gen, friendship
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Celebrimbor, Narvi
Pairings: none
Summary: Celebrimbor and Narvi, and the construction of their legacy together.
I love all the sensory details of this fic: not only the beauty of moonlight but sounds and smells and touch. It goes into detail on the process of crafting, gradually building up to the ending. And of course I love Celebrimbor and Narvi's relationship here too.

Format: art
Genre: slash
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Celebrimbor, Narvi
Pairings: Celebrimbor/Narvi
Summary: A moment of clockwork song
I love this picture so much! The little bird itself is delightful, and I'm charmed by the idea of it. There's a sense of trust and being comfortable with each other that I really like.
Sanctuary Unlocked by lynndyre
Format: short story (1929 words)
Genre: gen, friendship
Rating: T
Warnings: Major character death; canonical character death, implied/referenced torture
Characters: Celebrimbor, Narvi
Pairings: none
Summary: Life and death and what follows.
A moving reunion after death (and a much-needed fix-it). Many of the details just seem very right, such as Nienna appearing to the Dwarves in their own likeness.
Opening by Nath
Format: short story (1110 words)
Genre: gen
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Characters: Narvi, Celebrimbor
Pairings: none
Summary: Sometime early in the second millennium of the Second Age: a moonlit night in Eregion, and two craftsmen anxiously wait the unveiling of their latest work.
A beautiful and satisfying story. I really like the growing sense of anticipation, Narvi and Celebrimbor's clear affection and respect for each other, and the puzzle Celebrimbor gives Narvi which anticipates the riddling instruction on the doors.
