Title: The Works of the Noldor
Summary: Tuor explores one of the coves at Drengist
"What could this be?"
Tuor stopped walking and bent to retrieve the artefact, half buried in the white sand of Drengist. He had been exploring in a cove among the sea-hewn cliffs after discovering signs that the Noldor had once dwelt there. Days before he had found a winding staircase carved into the rocky face of a cliff. The quality of the work was such that it could only have been Noldorin.
Holding the silver ornament up to the sunlight, he turned it over, admiring its beauty. It was like nothing he had seen before. His foster father Annael's Grey-elves lived simply, not choosing to adorn themselves with trinkets. This surely was Noldorin, fashioned of finely woven silver threads, in a swan-like shape.
It fit perfectly into his palm, its surface slightly convex, a type of pin fastened across the centre back. Delighted because the swan was the emblem of Annael's house, Tuor slipped the ornament into his pocket, believing that it might bring him luck.
And in the same moment, the trumpeting clamor of seven white swans flying above reached his ears. Believing that they were calling to him, he decided to follow them southward. Hope swelled in his breast that he was to achieve his destiny. He cried aloud:
"I, Tuor, son of Huor, son of Galdor, son of Haldor, am sure now that my quest to find Turgon, High King of the Noldor, will be successful and that I will finally see his Hidden Kingdom."
Feeling a lightness in his heart that he had not felt for a long time, Tuor almost skipped along the sandy beach, following the swans.
