2017 Thank Yous

We want to thank everyone for participating in Back to Middle-earth Month! We had over 280 fanworks posted for B2MeM, mostly on LiveJournal but also some on AO3 and on Tumblr. We loved seeing newcomers and veteran fans alike. We also want to thank anyone who reviewed, whether or not you created something else for B2MeM.

We want to thank our moderators: Independence1776, Linaewen, DawnFelagund, Zdenka, and Ysilme, as well as our new tagging volunteer Just_jenni.

The gameboard and prompts will remain available for use year-round. If you are still working on fanworks, feel free to post them in the LiveJournal comm and/or AO3 collection, along with whatever archives or sites you normally use, no matter when you finish them.

We hope to see you again next year!

I wanted to take this chance to thank you all for your hard work, but also for making a short path for artworks! I never had a problem adapting previous prompts to make fanarts. In fact, that's always been an additional challenge I loved about B2MeM. However, it's never been possible for me to complete the whole challenge... until this year. So thank you for making it possible this year for me to get to the end line! It's been amazing :D

I had this page open to say how much I loved this year - this is the first time I've made anything for B2MEM, and I finished the whole blue path! And I loved the whole experience, everyone here is fantastic.


Last night - now we're subject to Russian law on LJ, according to the new TOS. That's beyond deeply troubling. Is there any thought towards hosting B2MEM on DW next year? Is the community backed up over there, at least?

You're welcome! I'm thrilled to hear that it was such a success for you.

This is something that the mods and I are about to discuss, not just because of the legal things (LJ is far less of a home for fandom than it was even a couple of years ago and we do want to keep the fest alive). As of right now, the community is not backed up onto Dreamwidth. It's a can of worms-- not everyone wants their fics there, not everyone wants to be affiliated with the site, we don't have permission for people to archive their work elsewhere, etc. We do have a DW comm, but it's a mod post-only mirror; no one else can post there right now.

We'll keep everyone in the community informed as we adjust to things. (It won't be a quick process; Dawn for one has a Tolkien conferance to attend this weekend; Passover and Holy Week/Easter both start next week.) But please know we aren't dismissing your concerns.

I'm glad to hear you're planning to raise the subject for discussion -- I was thinking of bringing it up myself. I will hold that thought, then, until you're ready to formally start that conversation.

Regardless of Russia, I'd planned on discussing B2MeM's future here anyway because LJ is dying. The new User Agreement makes it more urgent.
