Nerdanel rocks the cradle with a loving hand. In the distance she hears the consonance of metal striking metal.
She strokes Macalaurë’s midnight locks. Her beautiful, brave boy. When Fëanáro holds him he tugs his father’s hair, boldly meeting the piercing gaze that compels others, even little Maitimo, to look away. His chubby arms are already able to hold a hammer. Will he be a great smith? Deceptively delicate fingers curl at his rosy cheek. An artist of eminence?
Nerdanel picks up the tiny mantle she sews for his begetting day, choosing thread to match the color of his eyes.
