Admin Post: The First Round of New 2019 Cards Is Up!

I'm excited to share the first batch of new-for-the-2019-event bingo cards! I will be doing updates periodically, as I get new batches of cards added to the site. Card claiming begins on February 15. If these cards inspire you to want to make your own--or request our volunteer designers' help in making one for you--see the 2019 card creation post. All of 2019's cards can be viewed here, which includes the 105 cards created for the 2012 event.

Text-only cards will be available for the event but are currently under construction. I will share a link as soon as they are available.

Between these, the old cards, and the ones I'm making, I'm going to end up with a ridiculous number of claims...what am I doing to myself!? XD

Remember that this year's game is limited to ten claims for playing purposes! It's kind of a switch from 2012, where we allowed unlimited claims but then had strict deadlines on starting a prompt. (There are no deadlines on starting a prompt this year.) I'm assuming, as in B2MeMs in years past, that we won't limit people to just those cards if they're not playing them for a bingo. (I'll clarify this with the other mods today and get back to you! Because as I'm looking at the cards coming in, I suspect there will be a hard choice before many of us and this question will come up again ...)

I had somehow missed that rule (I should read more carefully XD) but it makes sense.

If there was the option of claiming more cards but not officially playing Bingo, just treating it as a Bingo-format prompt fest, I would probably do that, because I'm in love with so many of the ideas I've seen so far. And I know I could technically go off and write for the prompts whenever I like, but a fandom event just gives me that little push to make more effort and get it out of my head!

In the past, whenever we've done a game-style format, we've allowed that: people who aren't interested in the game to use the prompts however they see fit.

We're talking about it! Both Indy and I don't see why it should change, but want to give a fair shake to the other mods to weigh in.

(It's always been our approach in years past--we'd rather see more creativity than to require a game format for people who aren't interested in playing or able to commit to a game--but I wanted to double-check with this year's mods.)

I'll be doing the same. As a mod, I'm ineligible to win, but I hope I can create a few fanworks all the same. :)

Keep in mind that this year's game only allows ten claims; I'm going to check in with the other mods to clarify that we will be okay with people posting here for cards that they didn't claim, just as long as they didn't count those cards toward bingo. (It's a flip-flip from 2012 when we allowed unlimited claims but imposed strict deadlines on when prompts had to be done; this year, there are no deadlines, so we had to limit the number of claims to keep the game competitive.) I suspect this will be fine, as we've always prioritized creativity over game-play in B2MeMs past, but I'll confirm this.

Excellent! I doubt I could manage more than 5 cards (for the purposes of keeping track of bingos), but I might steal some prompts if I have spare time in March.

I feel inspired by quite a few of them, but I'll only actually claim one if I get half of the other fic I am currently writing done before the fifteenth :) But kudos to all the artists for the amazing art!
