Everyone, thank you for one of our busiest B2MeMs! We have over 450 fanworks posted to the Dreamwidth community, over 250 in the AO3 collection, and quite a few posted on Tumblr and SWG.

We especially want to thank [profile] just_jenni for helping tag the DW comm again this year.

We encourage you to keep working on your fanworks if you have them and to continue posting them to the Dreamwidth comm, the AO3 collection, and wherever else you feel like posting. There are no deadlines and the comm and collection do not close. Furthermore, the cards will remain available for you to use them whenever you want to.

We hope you had a great month and that we'll see you again next year!

Yesterday we had our first bingos reported!

Starlightwalking(AO3)/arofili(Tumblr) reported our first bingo and LindaHoyland (DW/LJ) reported our second. Congratulations to both of you!

Does anyone else have a bingo or are getting close to one?

Below, you will find this year's selection of banners and icons for both participants and winners. This collection may expand in the days to come, so check back again! Beneath each graphic is the HTML code to display that banner or icon on your journal, blog, website, or anywhere else where HTML is permitted.

If you are digitally stamping your cards this year, you will also find a selection of bingo stamps in a variety of colors.

Many thanks to Ysilme, [profile] mysterious_jedi, Linda Hoyland, and Smokie for their assistance in making this year's banners and icons!

We need several graphic makers to create banners and icons for us, both participant and winner. When you create them, please email all banners to b2mem.mod@gmail.com.

Graphics:

~ Must have "Back to Middle-earth Month 2019," "B2MeM 2019," or "B2MeM '19" somewhere on them.

~ If you wish to work with it, our theme this year is "Bingo Bash Redux."

~ Any size banner is acceptable. Icons should be 100 pixels by 100 pixels or smaller.

~ You must have permission to use any artwork or photography that you use on the banner/icon. This means that any artwork or photography used must satisfy at least one of the conditions below:

  • The artwork/photography is your own work, or you own the rights to the work.

  • The artwork/photography is in the public domain.

  • You have written permission from the artist/photographer to use her or his work, including making modifications, such as cropping or adding text.

  • The artwork/photography is clearly labeled with permission to use the work for nonprofit uses, including making modifications, such as cropping or adding text.

  • Screen captures from the movies are acceptable.

~ Any artwork or photography used must be suitable for all audiences, i.e., it should not include nudity, blood/gore, or anything more than mild sexuality (hugging, kissing, etc.).

~ Files should be saved in .JPG, .PNG, or .GIF file formats. Please use the Save for Web feature (or its equivalent for your software), if available, to keep file sizes manageable.

At long last, the day everyone has been waiting for: card claims are now open! You may choose from one to ten cards to play bingo with. Claims are open through March 31.

Click here for the official card claim form.

Feel free to squee in the comments about what card(s) you're playing.

We've received a couple of questions in the past few days.

1. Can multiple people claim one card?

Yes!

2. Did I have to submit a card in order to play?

No! The card submission was a completely separate way to participate. You can do one or both.

*

Given that there's 206 cards, which can be a tad overwhelming, we decided to make a list of cards separated by theme.

Below the cut, you will find the final round of new cards for our 2019 event. In addition, the complete card listing has been updated and copychecked so all 206 card choices for 2019 can be found there. Text-only cards can be found here.

Card claims will open on February 15. At that time, you will be able to choose the ten cards you will be playing with this year. As noted in an earlier post, you can absolutely create fanworks for cards you don't claim, including sharing them here or in other official B2MeM spaces, but you won't be able to win bingo on those cards.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by your choices, remember that there is an unofficial [community profile] b2memsupport where card selection strategies are already under discussion and where you can ask questions and discuss the game with other participants. Questions for the mods can be directed to b2mem.mod@gmail.com or left as a comment on any of our official posts on this community.

Finally, I would like to thank the more than dozen talented graphics designers and artists who created this year's cards: Grundy, Indy, Elleth, Elvie, Mysterious Jedi, Lunarium, Feanope, Narya, Raiyana, Loke, amyfortuna, Ysilme, Zhie, Smaug, and Janeways. (If I missed thanking you, please let me know so that I can correct my error!)

And now for the cards ...

What is says on the tin! January 31 is the last day to submit cards, either through the form or by emailing us cards you've made.

For more information about submitting cards, please see this post.

[personal profile] hhimring had the foresight to create an unoffical support community for B2MeM this year! (AKA the B2MeM mods have nothing to do with running the comm.)

You can find it at [community profile] b2memsupport.

To quote her intro post:
Are you someone who is participating in b2mem the first time this year and would like advice from someone who has participated before?

Or are you someone who is participating again and would like to ask fellow participants a question, vent writing frustrations, or talk about anything else related to the event? This community is for you.

Below the cut, you will find thirty-two new, clever, inspiring, and beautiful cards for our 2019 B2MeM bingo event! Many thanks to our artists for this round--Grundy, Elleth, Elvie, Lunarium, Feanope, and Narya--and to Linaewen, Linda Hoyland, and Oshun, who developed some of the ideas you see here.

Please remember that the last day to submit cards or ideas for cards is January 31. If you have a knack for making graphics and want to contribute a card or few, see this post for more information on making cards. If you'd like a graphics artist to make your idea for you, use this form to submit your card title and prompts.

Card claiming will begin on February 15. Each player can claim 10 cards to use in gameplay. (As in years past, it is fine to create and share fanworks here for cards that you did not claim; however, only claimed cards can be used to win bingo.)

Finally, if you missed them, the first round of new 2019 cards are here. All of 2019's cards are here, and text-only versions of the 2019 cards are here.

I'm excited to share the first batch of new-for-the-2019-event bingo cards! I will be doing updates periodically, as I get new batches of cards added to the site. Card claiming begins on February 15. If these cards inspire you to want to make your own--or request our volunteer designers' help in making one for you--see the 2019 card creation post. All of 2019's cards can be viewed here, which includes the 105 cards created for the 2012 event.

Text-only cards will be available for the event but are currently under construction. I will share a link as soon as they are available.

Many thanks to our graphics designers for this round: Loke, Grundy, Indy, Elleth, Celeste, Lunarium, and Feanope, with special thanks to Elleth and Elvie, who also offered the cards they made for Tolkien Femslash Week bingo.

[admin post] Admin Post: How to Create a Bingo Card

Jan. 13th, 2019 02:32 pm

General rules for creating cards are simple. The prompts must be suitable for an all-ages audience (i.e., avoid the use of profane language, graphic sexual references, and references to graphic violence). The cards cannot use copyrighted material in a way that violates fair use without permission of the original rights holder. (For example, if you use image-based prompts, the images must be in the public domain, or you must have permission of the artist to use their work.)

Once you submit a BINGO card to the challenge, you will not be able to edit your card and you will not be able to withdraw your card from the challenge! We may make minor edits and changes, such as correcting spelling mistakes.

There are two ways to create a bingo card for our upcoming challenge:

I want to submit an idea for a card and have the card made for me by a graphics artist.

Each person may submit one idea for a bingo card and have that card made by volunteer graphic artists. (We may allow more submissions later, once we have a sense of the demand for cards. As always, watch this community for updates.

Use this form to submit an idea for a bingo card.

I want to make my own card.

Download a Card Template

Please make sure your read the following guidelines carefully before creating your card. The template is in PSD format.

  • Do not add bingo numbers to the cards. We will add the numbers when you return the card to us.
  • Please keep the dimensions of the card roughly the same as the template.
  • Leave 30 px of space at the top of each box. Do not put anything in this space. We will add BINGO numbers in this space once you send the cards to us.
  • Feel free to change colors, fonts, add images, et cetera--get creative!
  • Remember that, for any images you use, you must either have permission from the copyright holder, or the image must be in the public domain.
  • Save your card in PSD format and return it to us by emailing us at b2mem.mod@gmail.com. We prefer the card to remain in PSD format, but JPG, PNG, and GIF formats are also acceptable.

Download a PSD file of the card template.

Make Your Card from Scratch

If you want to create a card from scratch, you may do so, but please read the guidelines below carefully to ensure that we can use your card. Cards that do not meet the guidelines will not be used. Check out existing cards to get an idea of how to set up your card.

  • Total dimensions for the card should not exceed 600 px in width and 700 px in height.
  • Create a space at the top of your card for the title of your card.
  • Below the title, add 25 boxes for prompts, with five boxes per row (for a total of five rows).
  • Designate the center space as a FREE SPACE. Do not include a prompt in this space!
  • Leave 30 px of space at the top of each box. Do not put anything in this space. We will add BINGO numbers in this space once you send the cards to us.
  • Include a prompt in each box, except for the free space, for a total of 24 prompts.

Please comment here with questions or email us at b2mem.mod@gmail.com.

Back to Middle-earth Month is an annual challenge that honors Tolkien’s universe and encourages creativity based on it. All Tolkien-based creative work is welcome, whether movie- or book-based. This year, Bingo Baggins has reopened his bingo hall! Bingo players will choose themed bingo cards to play with, each square of which contains a different challenge.

Below, you will find the rules for the game, which will begin on March 1 and run through the month. Please note that if you played the bingo game in 2012, several of the rules have changed. As we prepare for this year’s event, however, we hope that the B2MeM participants will first help us in other ways.

We need your help to create a range of diverse and fun bingo cards! We already have 105 bingo cards available and we’d love more. Each participant will be able to submit one card idea through the form. If you have the graphics skills to make your own cards, we welcome as many as you want to make provided you do not number them (we’ll handle that part!). The link to the submission form is here and more information about submitting and making bingo cards can be found here. The final day to submit cards is January 31.

There will be text-only versions of all of the cards for those participants who need or prefer them.

2019's cards can be found here.

We need help getting the word out! B2MeM is a challenge for the entire Tolkien fandom, no matter what site you participate on. All formats, genres, eras, characters, and ratings are welcome. If you know other writers, artists, fanwork creators, or groups that might be interested in the challenge, pass the word along-- the more the merrier. (Please be a good citizen on your group and make sure it’s okay to make promotional posts before posting about B2MeM on other groups.)

If you own/moderate a group, event, or challenge and would like to become a B2MeM affiliate, contact the B2MeM moderators at b2mem.mods@gmail.com.

B2MeM 2019 Rules

1. Start by claiming your bingo cards. You may choose anywhere between one and ten cards. Ten cards is the maximum. There is no deadline to claim cards. Card claiming will begin on February 15.

2. Each day beginning March 1, we will call a number. There is no card stamping this year, though will we provide a stamp for those who wish to do it themselves. You do not have to post the fanwork for it to count as a completed challenge; this event works on the honor system and you determine how much work you feel is appropriate to count. Every person who gets a bingo will receive a banner.

3. You may work on as few or as many fanworks as you wish. You may combine prompts into one fanwork. You may use one prompt to create one fanwork. You may use B2MeM prompts to continue WIPs. You may use B2MeM prompts in fanworks created for other fandom events.

4. As always, we trust participants to decide for themselves what counts as filling a prompt. There are no rules regarding minimum word counts, time spent on the project, et cetera. There are no deadlines.

5. You may combine or ignore prompts as you see fit. For example, if you have three cards and the number called is on all three, you may use one, two, or all three prompts in however many fanworks you choose to work on that day.

6. You may not claim stamps for existing, finished pieces. You must use the day’s stamp(s) to create something new (starting a new piece from scratch or adding something new to a work in progress).

*

Instructions on how to play bingo and Frequently Asked Questions can be found here.

We have mirror communities on Tumblr and LiveJournal, a mailing list so you can receive the prompts directly in your inbox, as well as an AO3 collection.

If you have questions, please comment here or email us at b2mem.mods@gmail.com.

B2MeM 2019 needs your help! We're doing a graphics-heavy challenge this year and need people to make them so they're available for use in March. The timeframe for creating the graphics will be from mid January to mid February. We have a template available. Examples of what we'll need you to create can be found here.

If you're interested in volunteering to help us, please comment here (with your email!) or email us at b2mem.mod@gmail.com.
