(It took me a bit to figure out how "cute" applied to what I saw as borderline-horror; but I guess if you're not familiar with OOTS, it does look kinda chibi).

It's partly that, and partly the way Huan's real self is visible under the illusion? Drawn in that style, he looks like a cute dog, only now he's a cute dog pretending to be a ferocious wolf, and that just seemed more cute to me.

If it's any consolation, I've also had the reaction of thinking pictures of actual ferocious werewolves are cute and wanting to pet them. (And bats! Bats are just really cute animals, and I like them?)
