B2MeM Card, Prompt, and Number: I25; Symbolism
Format: Ficlet (119 words)
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Warnings: N/A
Characters: Galadriel, Melian (mentioned)
Pairings: N/A
Creator’s Notes: Though it is never outright mentioned in canon, Galadriel must have gone to the Gardens of Lórien, or else she wouldn’t have based her realm off of them. And, knowing this, there is no reason to believe she wouldn’t have at least vaguely known Melian before coming to Middle-earth. (Except that I think Melian left before Galadriel’s time. But I am realizing this just now as I write the Creator’s Notes, so that is probably an error in my writing.) Also, I sort of stole my (heavy-handed) symbolism from Julia Holter, who sort of “stole” it from Etel Adnan.
Summary: Galadriel comes to the Garden’s of Lórien to escape the tension of the rest of Valinor. But todag the Gardens are not as peaceful as she had hoped.
The birds are shrieking. The gardens of Lórien are supposed to be peaceful, but today all I hear is their noise. Perhaps I will ask Melian tonight to calm them.
The birds remind me of the whole of Valinor. This is paradise, or so they say. But everyone is so loud with their opinions, and our assumed safety has made us irascible.
Sometimes it seems like there’s no escape from the brewing tension. Like no matter where I go, someone’s always angry, only no one’s saying it outright. That’s why I come here. Usually I stand with Melian by the glowworms and the shadowy willow, or sit in the moss to listen to myself think. Usually the birds sing.
I’m not totally happy with this, but I am happy that I got it done in time. And now, I HAVE A BINGO ON THE “POETIC LANGUAGE” CARD!!!
