B2MeM Challenge: Crossover/G51 ("with an action/adventure film) Games People Play/G51 ("King of the Hill")

Yes, I know it's "a melodrama of manners," but it was the swordplay that originally stole my heart. That counts as action, of a sort.

Format: prose short story (1,323 Words)
Genre: crossover
Rating: teen (for implied sexuality)
Warnings: n/a
Characters: Aragorn, Richard, Alec
Relationship: Richard/Alec

Summary: A Dunedain Ranger walks into a (Riverside) bar. (A Tolkien/Kushner crossover set not long after the events of Swordspoint.)

Wonderful crossover. I can see a lot of commonality between Richard and Aragorn, with a sprinkle of Alec for interest and joy de vieve. Loved it!

First off, I'm madly in love with the title *grin*

I found this very intriguing, Richard and Strider almost (but not quite) splitting hairs over the concept of sellswording (by whatever name): Strider the idealist believing his is more honorable because he does it for a purpose larger than himself, and Richard, the pragmatist, preferring his because it is his means of supporting himself and those he loves.

I liked this a lot. Fun contrast between the two irreconcilable points of view. I think Aragorn's obvious sanity. He is definitely not going to get into a fight to death over a chair in a tavern!

And what an interesting evening it would have been - for all concerned!

Hee, that's fun. Aragorn, of course, has spent too much of his life on various battlefields to understand why on earth anyone would pick a fight to the death when they didn't have to!

An interesting meeting in which each side must give over at least some preconceptions.
