Dear card-makers...
Apr. 1st, 2012 04:30 pmIs there any chance you would like to share with our dear B2MeM participants, which cards did you create?
I know I'm probably too curious, but I like knowing that sort of things. *blushes* So many gorgeous cards were made for this event with so many awesome prompts. I wouldn't mind knowing to whom exactly do I owe my gratitude. So, which cards did you make?
As for the rest of you... do you by any chance have a favourite card or cards? Are there any prompts you were really looking forward to writing, but the number wasn't called? Any cards you wished you could have claimed, but didn't because you already had too many of them or didn't have enough time?

Date: 2012-04-01 02:52 pm (UTC)I enjoyed writing for the Canon Couples myself, but was rather disappointed that more hobbit couples were not called-- I had made it very carefully to be sure to include characters of all races, but it seemed the ones called most frequently were Men or Elves!

Date: 2012-04-01 05:33 pm (UTC)But I think quite a few people got Bingo on that card, didn't they?
Sorry about the lack of hobbit couples. Maybe next time? :)

Date: 2012-04-01 03:00 pm (UTC)I adored all of the cards I claimed for B2MeM, but I'd like to give a special shout-out to the authors of Book Titles and Song Lyrics, from which I got a lot of great inspiration (and whoever made the Song Lyrics one has awesome taste in music, btw). Also Crackfic, because those were just so much fun, and Femslash, because those prompts really challenged me in a good way. Also Dwim's AU card, of course, which was pretty great--wish I could have written more for it.
As for prompts I wish had been called or didn't have time to write for...too many to list!

Or rather, I submitted the prompts, and Dawn and the mods did all the cool graphics, because I am a luddite.
I very much enjoyed playing the Femslash card, Magic and Real, and Economy; of course, I had to play both the Aragorn cards and Rangers of the North. I mean, how could I possibly NOT? There were so many cool cards, some of which were just so pretty, I was feeling grabby just for their looks, but I would've gone insane trying to write for all of them. I probably should've grabbed Causes of Death and Injuries and Ailments just because of the amount of deathfic I ended up writing... *cough* Oh well. I was there in spirit!

Can I just whine a little why Himring, Dor-lómin, Barad Eithel, Helcaraxë and Halls of Mandos prompts weren't called?

Date: 2012-04-01 04:03 pm (UTC)It's really really hard to pick favourites, though, because combining prompts was the real challenge - but I loved the AU, Economy, Fëanátics, Femslash, Four Words and Write What You Know cards, while TVTropes of Tolkien gets my nomination for the most devious card simply for the timesink potential involved with it. :D Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the rest of the cards - they were all fabulous, and I can't wait to play again!

Date: 2012-04-01 04:16 pm (UTC)I only had five numbers called on the AU card, which was a pity because all the prompts were positively mouth-watering.
Most of my numbers were on the Sons of Feanor card, but I loved the other prompts too.
I wish I could have claimed the Canon Couples and Women of the Silmarillion cards too, but I thought I wouldn't have enough time to write all the stories I wished. :(

Date: 2012-04-01 04:46 pm (UTC)For me, inspiration really struck with the Adunaic, Economy, Women of the Silmarillion, and TVTropes cards. I really enjoyed writing for a few prompts from the Silmarillion vs. Harry Potter card as well: it was so fun to re-cast the HP characters into the Silm! :D The Controversial Topics card was also really great, and I wish that some numbers for that one had been called.

Date: 2012-04-01 05:03 pm (UTC)But for those curious, I came up with the prompt and art for Archery in Arda and The Eligible Bachelor Baggins. I pitched in when help was needed for making bingo cards. The artwork I did for those are: Riddle me Writerly, Cause of Death, Powers & Underpowers, The Diner's club and Beachly & Coastly. Other than that I have been responsible for the stamps creation, the awards/price ribbons, badges and artwork for this community and some other stuff...
I forgot to add... I initially only wanted to play the reviews card because of my busy real life. But then the Maglor in History 1 card popped up, I fought to resist that one but

I'm sure Dawn won't mind, if we do this a little early?

Date: 2012-04-01 05:54 pm (UTC)My favorite cards are probably Femslash, Winter Wonderland, Song Lyrics, Beachy and Coastly, and Of the Sea. There are a lot of prompts on pretty much all the cards I picked that I wanted to write, but either the numbers weren't called or they didn't fit the story I was working on. (I had a plan! I stuck to it! It saved my sanity this month!) So, basically, I'll be working on those prompts for the rest of the year. :D

Date: 2012-04-01 06:29 pm (UTC)I'm responsible for all the 'weird ones'. ;) Crack Pairings 1 & 2, Dwarves in the First Age, Relationship, This Means War! and Stewards of Gondor. It was so much fun making them, I just couldn't stop. Oops?
Couple of prompts I really wished that would be called: Silmaril and Elessar from Artifacts and Weapons card, Suicide on Cause of death, The Parentage of Gil-galad on Controversial Topics, plenty of prompts on Crack Pairings, anything to do with Azaghâl on Dwarves in First Age, Dior and Elwing on Fëanátics, relationship counselling on relationship (I thought Fëanor and Nerdanel could use one... so could Erendis and Aldarion), most of prompts on Review a story card, Caranthir's prompts on Sons of Fëanor, Aragorn as Boromir's father on Stewards of Gondor (along with couple of others) and a few on This Means War! card (like Thorondor or Maedhros vs Morgoth).
Does anyone know who made Maglor in History cards? And Winter Wonderland?

Date: 2012-04-01 06:44 pm (UTC)Gosh, I loved doing all my cards. Poetic Forms, Off the Map's Edge (that was particularly wonderful), Scientific Achievements, Economy, Alternate Viewpoints (on which I got a mighty THIRTEEN stamps and no Bingo!)... I didn't manage to do as many of the prompts on the Meta and Review cards as I would have liked, they drew on bandwidth that I needed for work.
Huge fun. Thanks folks.

I was sorry the dragon prompt wasn't called and that I didn't get a second Aragorn line as I made an error claiming my stamp for the first. I'd have also loved the Roheryn prompt to have been called.
I especially enjoyed "Names and Titles of Aragorn" "Injuries and other Ailments", "Here we come a Carolling", "All OCs all the time." But they were all great. The most challenging were "Canon Couples" and "Song Lyrics" but I got bingos on both!
The gifted mods created the actual cards. I just submitted the prompts.
I'd love to play again when my Muses have had a rest and have ideas for new cards!

Date: 2012-04-01 08:27 pm (UTC)I cannot count the times when I would write a prompt for Aspects of Aragorn, and then get the exact same prompt the very next day on Roles and Names of Aragorn! It was like double Christmas - or "OMG, wait, I have to think of another story about this, um, um, er.... aaaaah!!!!" (And then I wrote it anyway, thereby proving that nothing keeps an Aragorn fangirl down.)
(Except grading.)
(And volunteer work madness.)

I am considering investing in a cheap bingo game, and just going through and writing all the rest of everything in a whirlwind of insanity I shall call Bingo After Hours or something equally ridiculous..

Date: 2012-04-01 10:55 pm (UTC)Being a language nerd I naturally loved the Languages of Arda cards. Controversial topics and Deep Thoughts were really interesting, great cards. It's really a pity that the OC card came up so late, I wanted more of that! Feanatics was really fun, that gave some unexpected stories! :D Occupations, Poetic Language, Talents and Skills... It's kind of hard to pick some, they were all great. I had planned to make a Rare Characters card, but didn't find the time in the end, so it was great to see that someone else had the same idea, and with characters I wouldn't have thought of, too!
My Yarn prompt didn't come, though that won't keep me writing it anyway (Feanor is so going to knit). Puddle prompt on Waters neither, one of two prompts I actually had a plot in mind for. Rúmil the Sage on Rare Characters card (had wanted to make mine because of him. :) ) B13 did come up, though, and it made me so insanely happy to get my Petrichor. :D
Too many cards I would have liked to claim as well, but in retrospect that Four Words card looks good.
Well, I think I'm going to play some more with them on my own and see what new cards I'll include as well. That very huge fic born this month with 20 prompts in it already definitely requires some more, considering it worked so well up to now. :P

Date: 2012-04-02 03:43 am (UTC)Other faves: I thought every card was creative and interesting...but I especially loved the three food cards (admittedly, I did the Diners' Club one, prompts only, not the actual graphic!)...Shirish and Hobbits both...and the Eligible Bachelor Baggins...and Draw a Tolkien Character never failed to give me a smile. :) Also loved Injuries and Hurt/Comfort (the latter of which I did the prompts for also!).... I really had a blast and loved seeing all the wonderful cards. I admit I enjoyed the Aragorn ones too, in unexpected ways, thanks in part to the gentle guidance of lindahoyland, who taught me that almost any Aragorn prompt can incorporate Frodo if I like, and that there are endless ways to explore aspects of Aragorn. :)
I know there are some prompts I wished had been called but I'll have to look at my file for exact references...which I'm too tired to do tonight! And I wouldn't have minded trying the Colours one, but I just felt like I had so much on my plate already. I wish I had the creativity to write for more of them!
This was an utter blast. And as I said...they were all awesome, but that Cause of Death card...I swear, I think I died and went to heaven when I saw that. :) And it's led me into some fic I'm really loving right now. LOVING. That card has brought me so much fic happiness and joy. *hugs whomever and sends fried mushrooms*
Cheers,

Date: 2012-04-02 12:50 pm (UTC)My favorite cards were Maglor in History 1 and Feanatics.
The card I wish I had taken (but am very glad I didn't) was Maglor in History 2.
I put so much historical research into my Maglor stories, and dearly loved them. I'm still working on the final one. I'm not sure I could have fit the research in if I had taken both cards, so it's just as well that I only knew about one for most of the first week or so.
I had such a fun time. Now it is time to revisit what I wrote, edit things, and then finally post them as collections to my various archives.
THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE CARDS - THEY WERE MAGNIFICENT.
