B2MeM 2013 Participant Icons & Banners

We're thrilled to be able to offer a big assortment of banners and icons for our participants to use this year! Many, many thanks go to Lyra, Nath, and Elleth for their work on the banners and icons you see here.

To display a banner or icon, you can either

1) save the image to your computer and upload it to your image host or

2) copy the HTML code beneath each image, then paste it wherever HTML is accepted.

Please remember that B2MeM is an event for the entire Tolkien fandom, and all Tolkien fans are welcome! We greatly appreciate any and all assistance in getting the word out about our event. (Thank you to those of you who have posted about it already! :) If you know of a Tolkien group or Tolkien fans who might enjoy B2MeM, we greatly appreciate all help reaching beyond the humble extents of the three groups that run B2MeM to spread the word far and wide. Before posting to any groups or lists, however, please check to make sure it's okay with the moderators.

Hmmm. When I click on the links, I just get a blank window in my browser, no icon/banner. It's going to the site properly, but not showing anything. I've tried several different browsers with the same result. Also, when I try pasting the HTML link in my profile, nothing shows. Am I doing something wrong?

Do you mean that when you click on the LJ-cut links to open the page with the icons/banners, nothing shows? (I'm just trying to understand what links you're clicking on. :)

I'm seeing the LJ-cuts, no problem. I wanted to preview the images before I choose which one I want, but nothing shows when I click on the image links, and also the HTML when pasted doesn't show an image. I also see no list of images at the SWG link you provided. :-( It's just black space (or white space, depending on which browser I try for the link). I tried turning off my ad block but that didn't help, either. The links are definitely taking me somewhere but nothing shows up. And still nothing when I try pasting the HTML into LJ.

When you click on the LJ cut, it should display all of the banners and icons that are available. You shouldn't have to click any links to view the images, but it seems your computer doesn't like stuff hosted on the SWG server so the images below the LJ-cut aren't showing! :) All of the images are hosted on the SWG server. If you go to this page, are you seeing the images on the page? There should be a small icon below each of the Special Projects titles.

I uploaded one of the banners to Photobucket. Is it displaying for you?



I'm going to email my comods as well and see if anyone has any ideas of what might be wrong and how to fix it.

Drat, I just tried restarting my computer thinking that might solve the problem if it was related to the graphics (and it took forever, so it seems to have needed a restart) -- but no. Same problem, still.

I can go to the SWG site fine, but can't seem to get to a B2MEM section for 2013, either by changing the link in the address bar or from the site menu itself. However, here's something interesting. When I click on banners for 2012 B2MEM in that section of the site, they show up. And the HTML code works in my LJ. Not sure what that means for the new banners, though!

I emailed Rhapsody about this; she is much wiser than me in solving these kinds of problems. Hopefully, she will know what's going on. I'll check the security settings in the 2013 directory as well; since you can see the 2012 stuff, it's not the site generally, apparently, but just that directory. I set it up in a hurry last night and maybe clicked something I should not have.

I figured I should be seeing the images and not just the links, but alas -- it's just the HTML code showing for me under the cut. I can see the banner you uploaded to Photobucket, though, and the images on the SWG Special projects page you linked me to show up just fine. Also, the images in the Dropbox folder show up for me, yay!. So it would seem that, while my computer likes some of the images on the SWG site, it doesn't like the ones for the 2013 B2MEM for some reason!

Hope you can figure it out without too much pain. Thanks so much for your help!

And now, off to Dropbox to choose my banner. ;-)

Hooray! I'm glad Dropbox is working at least. I'm tempted to just scrap the directories I made last night and do them over again because I can't fathom why some images from the site show and others don't aside from the possibility of a wayward click on my part, while distracted and working on too many things at one time, as usual. ;)

Ok, I checked the settings at the server side but I can't see anything off with it (we still might check in because there has been a server upgrade/move some time ago and you never know whatever they changed this time). What I find odd is that apparently it only applies to one section at the site. So I am wondering: what browsers did you use to view the images? Furthermore, did you clear the cache and cookies? Some browsers let you delete cookies belonging to a particular site. Some Internet security software (including antivirus and anti-spyware programs, firewalls, privacy programs, and others) might have identified and might block certain images as web bugs or may prevent images from animating. Can you check the settings for your Internet security program to make sure it allows images to load. Maybe it is thinking that this particular websection is a threat to your pc and has listed the subdomain as such.

Can you have a look? Please?

Aha!! Thanks to your questions, I have discovered the problem. All is well with you guys, it's me and my internet security -- Kaspersky -- that is the culprit! I turned it off temporarily, refreshed the page, and all the banners appeared. Now I feel bad about bugging you about it, but I thought I'd tried everything to see what the problem was. :-( I keep forgetting about Kaspersky, which I just recently started using. It's blocked a few unexpected things before, but I forgot about that. So that's the answer. I'll just fiddle with its settings to allow things like this through.
