Galadriel, Aredhel, Indis, megafauna safari

Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalie states that [...] all living creatures that are or have been in the Kingdom of Arda, save only the fell and evil creatures of Melkor, lived then in the land of Aman; and there were also many other creatures that have not been seen upon Middle-earth, and perhaps now never shall be, since the fashion of the world was changed.

I always took that to mean that it'd be abundant in now-extinct megafauna from all sorts of different eras and continents living in the appropriate climate zones in Aman. I also like to think that Indis (whom I imagine to have been born in Cuiviénen and who I think participated in several mammoth hunting trips in her time) is very fond of her adventurous granddaughters (their age is up to you) and would have encouraged them to quiz her on family history. Of course, the inevitable question arising would be whether Indis could take them mammoth hunting (no, because it's dangerous and they are no longer dependent on that), but she does promise to go on a safari trip with just the two of them to see the creatures she's been talking about. Reminiscences and family bonding happen. :)

Gah! Elleth, you have all the good prompts. Not buying another one until I make sure I can finish the Nimloth one satisfactorily, but if I come back to this one, would you mind if other megafauna show up too? For example, giant sloths or the giraffe like camel (I just...them. And mammoths. And Aredhel trying to convince Galadriel that they have to bring one back, cousin, they're the perfect mount).

I'm sure the Nimloth one will be just fine! :D And I'd love it if you came back to this one, with Alticamelus and Megatherium and whatever else you can fit in, and the Elves subsequent bewilderment, because - having lived in what'd essentially amount to Pleistocene Eurasia - they're bound to be unfamiliar with some creatures!

I did actually censor myself a bit writing this prompt, or it'd have ended with five lines of obscure nomenclature, but - feel free to go absolutely nuts with this one. *happy teakettle noises* I also love Glyptodon an unreasonable amount (for no other reason that it seems like such a crackily fabulous evolutionary development - when my cousin was little he once called them mammal tortoises, and that still occasionally makes me giggle). And Aredhel would want to ride a mammoth of her very own, wouldn't she? :D

Thanks! :D I will definitely come back to it (and now it's making me want to finish some of my other "elves with megafauna" stories).

Oh! If you want to tell me the obscure nomenclature, I can go research about it. Glyptodon is amazing! Though, when my professor talked about it, he accidentally showed us a picture where someone pointed out that the 'car' (for scale) is actually a Barbie car, which I still crack up about. Aredhel would want to be queen of the mammoths, if only to be taller than Turgon and Argon for once. Now to figure out what Galadriel would want...

Heh, it's nothing in particular, I just didn't want to go and megaloceros and entelodon and elasmotherium and... you get the idea, because that likely would have made people back away even more than the prompt on its own probably did. ;) And now I'm wondering if the inital quote implies a total absence of predators or if there are un-corrupted ones and smilodon, homotherium, etc. were allowed into Valinor. I mean, with a realistic angle... if there aren't, Indis is probably going to find a megatherium gnawing on her begonias one day. :P

Galadriel... hmm. She'd probably want to be queen of the mammoths, too - not necessarily for riding, but to establish a realm of her own among her loyal subjects. :D

LOL at the barbie car! I've never seen a glyptodon fossil in person, but that size they most certainly are not. Although that would be pretty awesome.
