Vaire’s Weavings

Tapestries and fine woolen fabrics woven in the Legendary Lands of the West  (This is the stall for all prompts set in Aman, from the Years of the Trees to the Fourth Age and beyond.)

Comments are now closed but you can continue using the prompts; no claiming is necessary.

How to Post your Prompts:

Leave a comment with the subject line identifying the main characters, gen/het/slash/femslash/poly (if it’s not obvious), a brief description of the prompt, and possible warnings if needed (MPTTor SWG’s). The comment itself should be the prompt.

If for some reason you cannot make a subject line appear, please write and bold the relevant information as the first line of your prompt.

The subject lines and/or bold text will allow participants to easily scan for prompts they're interested in.

For example:

Subject line-- Frodo and Aragorn, gen, hurt/comfort at the Field of Cormallen
Comment-- While Frodo is unconscious after being rescued from Mount Doom, Aragorn cares for him.

OR

Comment-- Fëanor/Nerdanel, wedding night, sexual content

On their wedding night, Fëanor and Nerdanel end up not sleeping at all, as they are too busy enjoying each other.

Remember, no fanworks are to be posted in the prompts posts.

Feanor, Nerdanel, first meeting or first time

I am an absolute sucker for anything Feanor/Nerdanel. The story itself does not have to be a conventional romance. Doesn't even have to be het. Anything goes for me with these two. Foreshadow dark if you must, but I would just love some sweet early relationship something or another.

Nerdanel/OFC, post-Darkening hurt/comfort

Finwë’s not the only one who falls under the Statute of Finwë and Míriel; Nerdanel does, too. I’d love an established relationship and hurt/comfort (unrelated to the Statute, homophobia, the Kinslayings, or the events of the Darkening) with a happy or hopeful ending. (I’d prefer no explicit sex.)

When the hobbits came to Tol Eressëa, who did they meet? Did they meet any of the Elves of legend? Did any of them meet one or more of the Valar?

It would be great to see a tale of such a meeting!

Fingon/Maedhros, slash, getting married

Date: 2015-02-26 04:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] starbrow.livejournal.com
No homophobia - their marriage should be treated exactly the same as if they were different genders getting married. Maybe show some other same-sex couples as well, to prove it's not an unusual or weird thing. A nice diverse range of sexualities and gender identities would be ideal!

In the midst of all this, Feanor and Fingolfin actually reconcile to some degree, if only in horror over their children's poor taste in partners.

Maybe there's a debate over the fact that they are half-cousins, but ultimately it's considered okay. Otherwise, as LaCE compatible as possible?

Up to you whether or not to show the wedding night! ;)

Hi there. I've been checking you out since before the month began. I was *certain* someone else was going to claim this, at least once.

But that's okay. I've got a Fingon muse who's been keeping an eye out and tugged me back over here day after day.

It's been a month, and I promised him if this wasn't adopted, I'd buy it for him.

...don't tell the mods I'm using a farthing for someone else, k?

Elenwë talks herself into early re-embodiment after her death on the Helcaraxë. Still recovering from her ordeal, especially the loss of her daughter and husband, she seeks out her kinswoman and friend, Amarië.

Anything with these two would be so great--especially if the focus is on their new lives in Aman, not just their feelings of regret for their missing friends and family.
From: [identity profile] zopyrus.livejournal.com
Book of Lost Tales tells us that part of Melko's original punishment was to dwell "for four ages...in the house of Tulkas, and obey him in requital of his ancient malice."

Any fic that runs with this would be amazing. I want to read all about the Most Awkward Roommates in Eä, and if you include Melkor's canonical foot fetish I will love you forever. :D Feel free to make this canon-compliant with the later Silmarillion, or just stick to Lost Tales canon in all its weird glory (or full-blown AU, if that's what floats your boat).
From: [identity profile] kayleelupin.livejournal.com
Melkor has a canonical foot fetish? o.o and by Melkor/Tulkas do you mean a slash relationship or just that it's got the two of them in it? (Just checking, I'm pondering taking this but I don't know much about the whole foot fetish thing, so I need to know a bit more before I decide :) )

Feanor and the Proto-Simarils

Date: 2015-02-26 11:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] samtyr.livejournal.com
We know that Feanor created the proto-Silmarils -- but what happened to them? It doesn't seem likely he destroyed them given his stance on using the Silmarils to revive the Two Trees. Did he or Curufin or Celebrimbor bring any/all to Middle Earth? Did they become the Rings of Power -- and perhaps, somehow, the Arkenstone?

Vairë, Feanor, Miriel

Date: 2015-02-27 01:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elliska.livejournal.com
Vairë was a queen of the Valar and the spouse of Namo. She wove tapestries in which she recorded all the events of history, and they hung on the walls of the Halls of Mandos--where Feanor and his beloved mother, Miriel, both were doomed to dwell forever.

I would love to see a story where Feanor and/or his mother use Vairë's tapestries as a way to stay 'in touch' with the family they have left behind. Perhaps Miriel watching her son's deeds unfold in the tapestries. Or Feanor (and possibly Miriel too) watching his son's in Beleriand.

How do they feel about what they see? How does it change them? Does Vairë interact with them as they look at her works and, if so, what are her thoughts?

Anything with those tapestries. It has always fascinated me that Middle Earth's history was recorded where those in Aman (or Mandos, at least) could see it. I've tried to write this myself, but I get no where with it. :( lol

Galadriel, Aredhel, Indis, megafauna safari

Date: 2015-02-27 08:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyelleth.livejournal.com
Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalie states that [...] all living creatures that are or have been in the Kingdom of Arda, save only the fell and evil creatures of Melkor, lived then in the land of Aman; and there were also many other creatures that have not been seen upon Middle-earth, and perhaps now never shall be, since the fashion of the world was changed.

I always took that to mean that it'd be abundant in now-extinct megafauna from all sorts of different eras and continents living in the appropriate climate zones in Aman. I also like to think that Indis (whom I imagine to have been born in Cuiviénen and who I think participated in several mammoth hunting trips in her time) is very fond of her adventurous granddaughters (their age is up to you) and would have encouraged them to quiz her on family history. Of course, the inevitable question arising would be whether Indis could take them mammoth hunting (no, because it's dangerous and they are no longer dependent on that), but she does promise to go on a safari trip with just the two of them to see the creatures she's been talking about. Reminiscences and family bonding happen. :)

As more and more elves are returning from Mandos Halls, how do they cope with so many kings?

If you've been a king, will you still be one when you are returned? Would you want to be?

There are a lot of Noldorin kings - feel free just to stick with them - but extra kudos if you can throw Elu Thingol and/or Oropher into the mix!

Maglor and Curufin canonically both share their father's interest in languages, so anything about the three of them discussing any language-related topic together would be great, preferably with no angst/foreshadowing, and showing Fëanor as a caring parent.

Feanorians, Melkor, glam rock

I dithered about whether or not to put this here or in non-Middle-earth AUs but then decided it fits better here.

Basically, I'd love to see a glam rock take on Feanor & Melkor. Think Velvet Goldmine or David Bowie. Glitz, glamour, high camp drama, bisexuality, bed-hopping, and the blingiest bling that ever blinged.

Fanfic, fanart, fanmixes, etc, 100% desired!

The Little House of Lost Play

Date: 2015-03-04 06:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zhie.livejournal.com
The Cottage of Lost Play (http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Cottage_of_Lost_Play), found in poetry and in the Lost Tales, is an intriguing place built in Tol Eressëa. While found only in the earlier writings, it's an interesting concept that can be pieced into the more accepted 'core canon' of Middle-earth.

There are numerous possibilities for how to write about the cottage. Why was it built? What was it like when Lindo and Vairë (the elf) were running it? Are they still there, years later? Is someone else in charge of it now? Has it fallen to ruin? What tales were told there?

Book your stay at the Cottage of Lost Play for only one farthing.
From: [identity profile] inner-v0ice.livejournal.com
Any time from the end of the First Age to the beginning of the Fourth Age; someone in Aman receives a piece of good news from east of the sea.

Possible ideas:
1) an ancient elf, one of the original immigrants to Aman, learns that an old friend of theirs who chose to stay behind is still alive.
2) family or friends of a Noldo who followed Feanor learn that he/she is alive. (From whom? From Earendil or Elwing, or Idril or Tuor, or do they have to wait for news from the soldiers returning from the War of Wrath?)
3) Galadriel writes to her parents to announce Celebrian's birth, or even just to tell them about milestones in Celebrian's childhood.
4) Galadriel and/or Celebrian write to Finarfin and Earwen about their great-grandchildren Elladan, Elrohir and Arwen.
5) ????? [your idea goes here!]

(possible ideas for things aside from letters that could be sent to Aman as part of the news: locks of hair, sketches, books, carved trinkets, totally non-magical and non-alarming jewelry...)

The Silmarillion and the Iliad

From: [identity profile] mybluerose1990.livejournal.com
Whenever I read the Silmarillion I always think about how similar it is to many Greek epic poems. I am particularly fascinated by the similarities between Fëanor and Achilles. I'd love to read something that contains the first line of the Iliad, changed to reflect the Tolkien’s mythos: “Sing, O muse, of the rage of Fëanor, son of Finwe, that brought countless ills upon the Noldor.” The story can be either gen or with whatever pairing you like.

Bonus points if you manage to include someone as King Agamemnon!

Last conversations at the borders of Araman

zdenka: Yellow leaves. (all will yet be well)
From: [personal profile] zdenka
After the kinslaying at Alqualondë and hearing the prophecy of their Doom, some of the Noldor turned back at the borders of Araman. What was the last conversation, between those who went on and those who returned to Tirion?

I was originally going to prompt this for Fingolfin and Finarfin, but I'll make it more general: It could be them, Finarfin and his children, or any other combination of canon characters or original characters.

Optional headcanon: I imagine that Finarfin made the decision to turn back after Alqualondë, but told Fingolfin that he would go with him as far as the borders of Valinor in the hope that his brother and some of his own children would change their minds and come back with him.
