B2MeM Challenge: L, K
Format: short story (1575 wds)
Genre: general, family, character study
Rating: G
Warnings: brief mention of deaths of Elrond-Elros' uncles, ambiguous feelings towards Feanorians
Characters: Elrond, Elladan, Elros (posthumously)
Pairings: none
Summary: Elros taught him not to disregard all men as lesser creatures.  Yet not all men are equal.  Elrond resented the coming of the horse-folk.
But he taught his son differently, it appears.
Quote: "For the high men of Gondor already looked askance at the Northmen among them...a lesser and alien race."
This had something to do with the L quote, but it go so far away I can't really tell anymore...

B2MeM Challenge: Wildcard (finish something)
Format: short story (2150 words)
Genre: gen
Rating: T
Warnings: Emotional mistreatment/attempted harm to children, mention of human sacrifice, generally dark tone
Characters: Tar-Míriel, Sauron, OCs
Pairings: none
Summary: What the Queen does and leaves undone, the day before the Downfall of Númenor. The Armada sets sail, and Míriel waits for the shape of their doom to reveal itself.

Notes: I originally wrote (most of) this for the “seduction” prompt back in B2MeM 2011 (!) but I didn’t manage to finish and post it until now. *hangs head* (The seduction is not physical, in case anyone is concerned by looking at the character list!) But it could fit under this year’s prompts for Day Four (Ban of the Valar) and Day Five (Castle of the Sea/the Armada), and I really want to use the lovely icons, so I will say that it does. I think it also fits in with Dawn’s mention of Isildur in today’s task, with the theme of not quite doing things in time.

B2MeM 2013 Day EighteenBelow are three prompts, one from each of the three major eras of Arda’s history. To participate, choose one that sounds interesting, locate the quote in the books (that’s the scavenger hunt bit!), read the surrounding passage or chapter, and create your piece based on that.

Your piece does not need to be based on the scene from the quote. While this is certainly one approach, you could also write about a character, location, or theme found in the scene. Remember, there’s no prompt police, and we encourage creative use of the prompts!

B2MeM 2013 Day Eighteen "For the Naugrim withstood fire more hardily than either Elves or Men, and it was their custom moreover to wear great masks in battle hideous to look upon; and those stood them in good stead against the dragons."

B2MeM 2013 Day Eighteen "Therefore they grew wise and glorious, and in all things more like to the Firstborn than any other of the kindreds of Men; and they were tall, taller than the tallest of the sons of Middle-earth; and the light of their eyes was like the bright stars."

B2MeM 2013 Day Eighteen "'They come from Mordor,' said Strider in a low voice. 'From Mordor, Barliman, if that means anything to you.'"
