Creator’s Notes (optional):This is an extremely late fulfilment of something I promised to write for Huinare; her prompt involved Tar-Míriel and poetry. It’s been a fragmentary WIP for a while, but this year’s B2MeM inspired me to go back to it and finish it. Thanks to thinkatory for beta-reading.
Summary: As Sauron’s influence grows in Númenor, Míriel and a scholar of the Faithful discuss the translation of Elvish poetry.

B2MEM Challenge B2MEM 2012 I18 Adunaic – Izrê (beloved), Economy – Market Day, Emotions – Grief, Of the Sea – Corals

But the other Ainur looked upon this habitation set within the vast spaces of the World, which the Elves call Arda, the Earth; and their hearts rejoiced in light, and their eyes beholding many colours were filled with gladness; but because of the roaring of the sea they felt a great unquiet. And they observed the winds and the air, and the matters of which Arda was made, of iron and stone and silver and gold and many substances: but of all these water they most greatly praised. And it is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance else that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen.

B2MEM 2013 - Archetypes

B2MeM Challenge: OC Storytelling: A canon character tells a story about an original character. Any setting, any rating. Is the original character known to the canon character personally or is it a traditional story? If the two characters know each other, what is their relationship to each other? by [livejournal.com profile] hhimring.
Format: Short Fic (ca. 3400 words)
Genre: General, politics
Rating: Teens
Warnings: Rape (discussed, not graphic), an instance of violence, internalized homophobia
Characters: Tar-Míriel, OFC, Ar-Pharazôn, Sauron
Summary: Tar-Míriel takes on a new handmaiden, and tells her part in the history of Númenor.
Notes: Nénumë is from As All Things Must; this is a prequel. Some of the descriptions, the palace and court fashion in particular, are somewhat loosely based on Minoan Crete.

B2MeM Challenge: Wildcard (finish something)
Format: short story (2150 words)
Genre: gen
Rating: T
Warnings: Emotional mistreatment/attempted harm to children, mention of human sacrifice, generally dark tone
Characters: Tar-Míriel, Sauron, OCs
Pairings: none
Summary: What the Queen does and leaves undone, the day before the Downfall of Númenor. The Armada sets sail, and Míriel waits for the shape of their doom to reveal itself.

Notes: I originally wrote (most of) this for the “seduction” prompt back in B2MeM 2011 (!) but I didn’t manage to finish and post it until now. *hangs head* (The seduction is not physical, in case anyone is concerned by looking at the character list!) But it could fit under this year’s prompts for Day Four (Ban of the Valar) and Day Five (Castle of the Sea/the Armada), and I really want to use the lovely icons, so I will say that it does. I think it also fits in with Dawn’s mention of Isildur in today’s task, with the theme of not quite doing things in time.

B2MEM challenge: G50 - AU - Ar-Pharazon installs his son and heir as Governor of Pelargir among the Faithful...
Format: Short Story
Word Count: 1,057
Genre: Gen
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Characters: Ar-Pharazon, Miriel, Sauron, Elennim*, with mentions of Celebrimbor, Elendil and Isildur
Pairings: None
Summary: As it says in the prompt.

*A/N: Since Ar-Pharazon didn't have a son, I had to make one up. Since he has white hair, I named him Elennim. I have decided to go against the Silmarillion canon, in which Miriel married Ar-Pharazon against her will, and adopt the People of Middle-earth version instead, in which Miriel is very much in love with her cousin/husband.
