It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Throughout the month, we will offer weekly wildcard days, days when there are no new prompts but instead a simple, Tolkien-related task, for those who wish to participate. We hope wildcard days will give you a chance to refresh your muses, read, catch up on your WiPs, and breathe! :)

Our first wildcard day task: Step out your front door.

B2MeM is an event for the entire Tolkien fandom. Just look at what's been posted so far! All three major books are represented and characters ranging from Bilbo to Balrogs, Finrod to Faramir. Because of our diversity, though, we may not all know each other and we may define ourselves more by the communities from which we come rather than viewing B2MeM as itself a community. So, today, step out from your front door. Say hello and meet someone new. Lean out, take a look down the road, and ponder where it leads.

He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary.

To participate, leave a comment here and introduce yourself. Tell us the name you go by, what your passion is in fandom, and anything else about yourself that you want to share. Then, share a link to your favorite of the fanworks that you've created. (If you're new and don't have any fanworks yet, feel free to share a link to your favorite work by another author or artist.) The link you share does not have to be to a B2MeM piece; please make sure you include appropriate ratings and warnings if this won't be apparent when visitors click on the link.

After you've introduced yourself, take a moment to read/view another person's fanwork and leave them a comment to say hi and tell them what you thought.

Hi! I'm Elleth, and can be found either under this name or small permutations of it (ladyelleth, awildellethappears) in most fannish online venues. I've been a fan for about a decade (the movies were what sent me spinning into the fandom at light speed, but I make a point of an at least annual re-read of the books). It's the Silmarillion where my heart is at, though - the historicism, mythological approach, doom and high fantasy get to me more than LotR because they afford more freedom of interpretation and filling the gaps, and dabbling in more obscure Tolkien lore to fit in yet another tiny puzzle piece toward whatever fraction of a complete picture there can be is tremendous fun. :D The House of Finwë and the Noldor in general interest me most, and among them the ladies especially - the named and unnamed women as well as OFCs - I refuse to believe they all sat at home and looked after the kids, even if not many of them made it into the histories.

I can be a meddler, so probably have fingers in more fannish pies than is good for me, but I post Tolkien-inspired photomanips at my deviantArt account (http://ladyelleth.deviantart.com/gallery/255609) and write Silmarillion fic. Sometimes I help out with projects as a graphics maker or something along those lines; a few of this year's prompt icons are mine. I also write Silmfic (http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewuser.php?uid=10), do some betaing work and can't for the life of me point out something of mine that I'd recommend especially. Instead I'd like to rec In Neldoreth, the Muddy Season (http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewstory.php?sid=1735) by new author PerpetuaLilium, a reconsideration of Lúthien and Beren's meeting that I had the pleasure of betaing and that I think should get all the reviews.

Thanks for reccing In Neldoreth, it's very beautiful. Wish I could leave a review but it appears you have to be registered on the site, darn it!

Thank you for taking the time to comment anyway! I was planning to link the author here anyway, so the response won't go unnoticed. ^^

Oh, good! I loved the story, it had a quality of a sort of feyness/otherness mixed with practicality/reality. I was charmed by it and can tell this is a story to be reread.

Thank you so much! :D I tend to think that most of them don't come out half as nice as I'd like them to be (common problem!) but it still means a lot that people like the end results anyway! :)
