It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.

Throughout the month, we will offer weekly wildcard days, days when there are no new prompts but instead a simple, Tolkien-related task, for those who wish to participate. We hope wildcard days will give you a chance to refresh your muses, read, catch up on your WiPs, and breathe! :)

Our first wildcard day task: Step out your front door.

B2MeM is an event for the entire Tolkien fandom. Just look at what's been posted so far! All three major books are represented and characters ranging from Bilbo to Balrogs, Finrod to Faramir. Because of our diversity, though, we may not all know each other and we may define ourselves more by the communities from which we come rather than viewing B2MeM as itself a community. So, today, step out from your front door. Say hello and meet someone new. Lean out, take a look down the road, and ponder where it leads.

He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary.

To participate, leave a comment here and introduce yourself. Tell us the name you go by, what your passion is in fandom, and anything else about yourself that you want to share. Then, share a link to your favorite of the fanworks that you've created. (If you're new and don't have any fanworks yet, feel free to share a link to your favorite work by another author or artist.) The link you share does not have to be to a B2MeM piece; please make sure you include appropriate ratings and warnings if this won't be apparent when visitors click on the link.

After you've introduced yourself, take a moment to read/view another person's fanwork and leave them a comment to say hi and tell them what you thought.

Hello. I'm curiouswombat almost everywhere (except for the archive at Twisting the Hellmouth where I am curiouslywombat as I lost my original log-in details/e-mail etc.!).

I've been a Tolkien fan to one extent or another for - um - nearly 40 years? I actually got involved with fanfic through the Buffyverse, but gently moved sideways back to Middle Earth in the past five years. I write mainly Elf-centred Fourth Age stories - a long series that started at the end of the Ring War and has now reached The West about 150 years later. I post my long stories at Faerie and TtH, drabbles at Many Paths to Tread, and a mixture of longer stories and drabbles at HASA. I write mainly book-verse with the occasional shout out to the films where it works for my purposes!

I also write drabbles - I have hardly missed a week at [livejournal.com profile] tolkien_weekly since January 2009. The drabbles feature all sorts of characters - I have a soft spot for the Rohirrim, and for Eldarion's governess...

I have been fascinated by the wonderful works that are inspired by B2MEM each year - even though I have still never written to any of the prompts... I don't seem to be able to cope with prompts for anything longer than a drabble. But I will try, honestly!

In the meantime - things I am happy with - The Long Road Home (http://www.lotrgfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=2160) - Celebrían is not only Galadriel's daughter, but also Celeborn's, of course. Drabble set looking at their relationship through the lens of her journey to, and sojourn in, Valinor.

A Powerful Absence (http://efiction.esteliel.de/viewstory.php?sid=734) - A simple accident, some years after the end of the Ring War, leaves one of the sons of Elrond coping with life in Middle Earth without his twin.

Brotherhood (http://efiction.esteliel.de/viewstory.php?sid=406) - set in my long series this is a 'Returnverse' tale of travel, discovery, orcs, angst, intrigue, kidnap... and occasional sex.

Oh - and I am on the organising group for WriterconUK (http://writerconuk.livejournal.com/) - a small, friendly multi-fandom group who meet annually.

I just read "The Long Road Home" -- and I do like it! You take a rarely-explored relationship, and bring it to life with both human (and thus, familiar!) and Elven touches. (I like the postscripts, particularly.)

Thank you - I just thought poor Celeborn sometimes gets sidelined in so many relationships!

I adore "The Long Road Home." It is so powerful, taking Celebrian through the process of healing while revealing a strong familial relationship with a fully absent Celeborn. That is not easy to do when you can't have him directly interact with her, and makes their small communications so much more meaningful. Oh, it warms my heart when she runs to him and calls him "Daddy!" Wonderful. Thank you for linking to it again, I'd forgotten how much I loved it.

Thank you so much - poor Celeborn gets side-lined so often. That last line just wrote itself - and resonates for so many people of a certain age!

The Long Road Home sounds like an intriguing story, and I've bookmarked it for reading once this B2MeM bug has abated a little bit. And I'll keep my eye on Writercon, that at least is only the Channel, not the entire Atlantic, away, as so many of he bigger cons are! :D
