This is a slightly unusual rec list; certain prompts brought to mind specific fics and that's what I'm posting here, whether I love them or just kinda like them or literally haven't read them in years.

Author's summary: The Flight of the Noldor as Southern Gothic, or how one girl left her small town (pursued by the law).

Notes: This one took some tracking down. I vaguely recalled a) some disturbing scenes that fit the prompt and b) that I'd probably seen it on FF.net. Incredibly, I managed to find the story on that meager identification alone. The writing is a bit rough, but still chilling.
Author's summary: A psychological look into the twisted and cruel shaping of the first Orc. WARNING: Contains themes of horror and violence.

Fanfic: Awful MarySue: The Unsold Tales by tolkanonms

Notes: There have been many Parody Sue stories written. This one stands out for its creative mangling of Tolkien's names and language, having a sex scene written entirely in bullet points, and finding ten different ways to use "mysterious" and/or "stranger" in a chapter title.
Author's summary:A tale of the Fellowship: Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, Gandalf, Gimli, Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin…and one other. Also Elrond, Glorfindel, Celeborn, Galadriel, Celebrimbor, Haldir, Thranduil, Faramir and more. Arwen, however, is curiously absent.

Author's summary: Beren finds himself volunteered to share seasoned advice on "successfully" navigating the world of elvish-mortal relationships (if he can manage not to be interrupted).
