B2MeM Prompt, Card and Number: O68: perfect commotion of silk (127. Mary Oliver (1935-2009))
Format: teaser
Genre: vignette, character study
Rating: General
Warnings: none (except for a very vague veiled allusion to Thangorodrim)
Characters: Maedhros, OFC
Pairings: n/a
Creator’s Notes: This is a scene that had already been planned for one of my slow-moving chaptered WIPs. I'm glad that I could find a b2mem prompt to push me into writing it.
Summary: Maedhros has persuaded a Sindarin healer to accompany him to Himring to treat one of his people. This is a scene that takes place on the journey. Maedhros and the healer have only recently met and do not know much about each other's backgrounds yet. (The healer goes by the name of Auntie, but this is a bit of a joke on her part, not a sign of venerable age.)

B2MeM Challenge: "I would dearly love to see a story that revolves around the history of the Elessar jewel, with Aragorn as a focal point. Doesn't mean he even has to be in it but he should have a central importance in the story. I don't care if there is one version of the jewel or two, as you wish. Shoot, you could write a Fourth Age investigation into the provenance of the one Aragorn possesses. Things that have been running through my head that I would love to see if it fits for you: Earendil, Vingilot, the Great Eagles, Celebrimbor, Gondolin, and a hobbit (an adventurous Took?). You could have Merry and Pippin do the investigating after they return to Minas Tirith when they're elderly." (Baranduin)

Format: ficlet, teaser

Genre: gen, gapfiller

Rating: General

Warnings: none

Characters: Aragorn, Gandalf, Pippin

Pairings: Aragorn/Arwen

Creators' Notes (optional): The section of my Elven Glass series on Aragorn, which finally got written thanks to Baranduin's prompt, cross-posted from [livejournal.com profile] lotr_community. The Aragorn section refers to the content of some of the previous sections, but can be read on its own. Thanks to the prompt, there is a bit of helpful input from Pippin here as well, which the original outline did not include!

Summary:

In Minas Tirith, while Aragorn is waiting for Midsummer and Arwen's arrival, Gandalf tells Aragorn more details about the history of the Elessar than he had previously been aware of.

Just a little teaser from the fic I added to for today's I22, Food (sandwich)...not that this teaser has much to do with sandwiches. ;)

"Mad, you mean."

Lord Elrond was quiet for a minute, but he looked right at Mr. Frodo. "Frodo, I did not say that."

"But it's what you're thinking. Isn't it?"

"Frodo, what do you think madness is?"

"It's - " Mr. Frodo gestured helplessly. "It's people who've lost their wits. People who do strange things. People who haven't any decency left."

"Is it?"

The way he looked at Mr. Frodo, I could tell he was getting at something, but I kept my mouth shut even though I felt like I knew where he was going.

"Isn't it?" asked Mr. Frodo after a moment. "I mean, what else would it be?"

"What if it were a sickness? Something which you did not ask for any more than you asked to catch the measles, or come down with pneumonia?" He took Mr. Frodo's poor hurt hand. "Something which you did not ask for any more than you asked the Ring to whisper to your mind? What if madness were something you could not help?"
